Markets Served: Refrigerants Oil Analysis
Protection For Refrigeration Systems
The presence of a few parts per million (ppm) of a contaminant could spell the difference between safe, reliable operation and catastrophic failure in chillers and HVAC systems.

Shell LubeAnalyst's refrigeration analysis programs can give you the security of knowing that the condition of your equipment—or the equipment you service—-is within safe operating ranges. It also verifies that lubrication is taking place as specified, allowing effective maintenance scheduling.
A full range of laboratory analyses and services are available for a fraction of the costs of replacement, major repair or downtime.

These services analyze lubricants and refrigerant solutions for reciprocal, centrifugal and screw-type compressor systems, and those systems powered by natural gas engines.

The services can be used to ensure warranty coverage in a variety of ways. For pre-bid analysis by service contractors. In established or beginning preventive maintenance programs. And, for system conversions to R134A refrigerants.

The cornerstone of this testing is spectrochemical analysis. Wear and corrosion levels are monitored, along with metallic oil additives, contaminants such as dirt, silicone sealant, and water inhibitors that could damage your compressor.

Next, physical properties tests measure the viscosity of your lubricant and identify other contaminants. Data from these tests also reflect the effects of system operating conditions on the lubricant.
For hermetically sealed compressors, testing for dielectric strength measures the lubricant’s current ability to withstand voltage without conductance. Loss of dielectric strength can result in burnouts, caused by excessive moisture, oxidized oil particles, and/or suspended wear or corrosive materials.
